Last Updated: 11/29/06 10:30:34 AM

The National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology has certified three DAN online seminars in continuing education credits for Diver Medical Technicians.

DMTs can use these DAN Online Seminars to meet their diving-specific continuing education requirements. Officially, they are worth:

Ears and Diving: 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) – Category A

Pathophysiology of Decompression Illness: 2 CEUs – Category A

Inert Gas Exchange, Bubbles and Decompression Theory: 2 CEUs – Category A

Every 24 months DMTs are required to have a minimum of four hours of diving-specific continuing education, along with another 20 hours of general emergency medicine. To receive credit for completing these online seminars, DMTs simply submit the online certificate to the NBDHMT and request that it be added to their file. The three approved seminars are $25 each.

DAN has also recently released a new seminar on diabetes and diving, but has not yet been approved for credit. The Diabetes and Diving seminar is free of charge.

Ears and Diving Seminar
You’ll learn about your ears and how to take better care of them when you are diving. It’s based on a presentation by Dr. Frans Cronjé, President of DAN Southern Africa.

Pathophysiology of Decompression Illness
Learn about what goes on in the body when bubbles form as a result of a dive, based on a lecture delivered by Dr. Richard Moon, Senior Medical Consultant to DAN.

Inert Gas Exchange, Bubbles, and Decompression Theory
Learn about inert gas exchange in the body and the effect those bubbles can have on your dive in this online seminar, based on a presentation by Dr. Richard Vann, Vice President of Research at DAN.

Diabetes & Recreational Diving: History and New Guidelines
Learn about diabetes and the new guidelines for diving with diabetes in this presentation by Neal W. Pollock, Ph.D., a research physiologist with DAN. These online seminars are available to the diving public as well as to DAN Members.
